Ed. note: This is a weekly recap of games I and the rest of the Press Pros Magazine staff covered over the weekend along with other games results I found interesting from the areas we cover. Feel free to send suggestions in the future to [email protected] or just replay to this email.

Anna-Coldwater was one of those games that reminds you every week can be special and memorable in high school football.

Games feel more like a means to an end in the NFL and the higher levels of college football where one game no longer makes as much of a difference.

But I am sure those kids from Anna will be talking about their win over Coldwater for a long time no matter how the rest of the season turns out.

That is not to belittle the Rockets and their program. They have their own tradition and right to be proud.

Nonetheless, they had only beaten the Cavaliers three times in the last 19 years so obviously this was not just another game.

“This is a surreal feeling. I mean, at least since I’ve been here, we haven’t beat Coldwater once, and we prepared all week mentally, physically. I mean, this was probably the hardest week of practice we’ve had so far. And our coaches push us, and they make us better, really, throughout the week.”

Zeb Plieman, Anna senior

Of course there is a postseason in high school football, too, and this figures to be a big win for that in Anna’s case.

The Rockets already had two wins on the season, but Spencerville and Fort Loramie are not giving them much in terms of playoff points since they have combined to win one of eight games.

As it is, Anna is tied for seventh in Region 24 (DVII) this week with Mechanicsburg while Coldwater is hanging at No. 5 according to JoeEitel.com.

New Bremen beat Versailles in another classic

Gavin Dicke threw for 244 yards on just 10 completions for the Cardinals, none bigger than the last one to Trevor Topp for the winning points after the clock ran out.

“This one ranks up there with some of the more memorable games in New Bremen history.  And I told the guys in our post-game huddle that the offense finally won a two-minute drill.  We do it every week in practice and the defense has always won.”

— Chris Schmidt, New Bremen HC

Sounds like a thriller, so be sure to follow the link for the full report from boss man Sonny Fulks.

The Cardinals join Marion Local (duh) and Minster as the only teams still unbeaten in the MAC entering Week 5.

Lehman Catholic got a big win at TRC rival Northridge on Thursday night

Star quarterback Turner Lachey did his usual thing on offense (25/35 for 392 yards, four touchdowns), but he also gave the Cavaliers defense a lift with the Polar Bears getting the better of things early in the game.

This was also a revenge game for Lehman after they lost to Northridge in Week 10 last season.

Evan O’Leary caught 12 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown while CJ Olding caught seven passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns.

They continue to put up insane numbers in coach Dwane Rowley’s spread offense.

Lehman is the only 4-0 team in the TRC, but Miami East is 3-1.

What’s new in the Miami Valley League?

Well, not much this week.

Tippecanoe kept it rolling by crushing Stebbins with somewhat surprising ease (41-6) while Butler bounced back from a tough loss to Xenia by beating Sidney 31-6.

This week the Aviators host the Red Devils while Troy goes to Fairborn.

The Trojans are the other 3-1 team in the MVL Miami Division, and they still get to play both Tipp and Butler.

Do-it-all quarterback Aiden Kirkpatrick had 282 total yards and two touchdowns against the Indians, but coach Troy Everhart says he would like to get him some help.

“Even though 7 (Kirkpatrick) is the distributor, when we hand the ball off, we’ve got to get hard yards, and right now up front, those five guys have got to improve if we’re going to continue to make any kind of damage.”

— Troy Everhart, Troy HC

Fairborn and Xenia are tied atop the MVL Valley division after both won handily last week.

In Central Ohio, Dayne Schmidt took center stage in a rivalry game between Hilliard Davidson and Hilliard Darby.

Possessing several different gears, the hard-running, high-stepping 5-foot-11, 210-pounder ran over, around and through the Panthers, amassing a career-high 209 yards with three touchdowns on just 15 carries as host Davidson pulled away for a 35-14 nonleague victory in the latest edition of the Great American Rivalry Series.

In an early Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division game, Westerville South flipped the script during the final two quarters against visiting Dublin Scioto.

The Wildcats rallied to defeat an Irish team off to its best start in more than a decade but missing quarterback Jack McKee.

South did that thanks to three plays in the third quarter that gave them control of what would become a 26-18 victory

To the northeast, Lakewood St. Edward beat Cleveland Glenville 28-14 thanks to 180 yards on 27 carries by Brandon White.
